Artist Call-Out!

20 March 2024

As part of the LNRS development in Kent and Medway, we feel it’s really important for the people of Kent to be able to visualise the future for biodiversity and nature recovery that we are hoping to achieve, particularly since the strategy is a wholly bottom-up approach and being developed in collaboration with the public, landowners, NGO’s, community groups, businesses, developers and local authorities – it’s our LNRS – all of us in Kent!  So we have decided to commit some of our budget to the creation of some artworks that reflect the data we are collating from our surveys and workshops – these data detail what people’s priorities are for nature in Kent, and help us build a picture of our possible future landscapes and habitats.

With that in mind, we are commissioning several pieces – these can be produced using any style of artwork, but we would like the commission to result in visual representations of nature recovered in:

  • a Rural setting
  • an Urban setting
  • a Coastal and marine setting
  • a Rivers and freshwater setting
  • and across the county’s wide landscape

Within all illustrated visions, we will want specific habitats and species featured – we will be able to give details on these by mid-April, once we have collated all our data and created our shortlist of priorities.  From that point, the selected artists will have two months to produce their final piece.  Our intention is to then display these artworks at future workshops, events, and online, so that we can share the vision for Kent with as many people as possible!

If you are interested in being considered for this commission, please submit a quote for the work to makingspacefornature@kent.gov.uk.  This should detail which settings you are interested in illustrating for us (It could be one of the settings, several, or even all of them) the price of the commission and examples of your work which demonstrate why you are the right person to bring our visions for nature to life.

And if you have any questions about the commission, just give us a shout!  makingspacefornature@kent.gov.uk
